The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. In this role, you will be required to work onsite, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Denver International Airport Maintenance Center, located at 27500 East 80th Avenue, Denver, CO 80249.

Denver International Airport (DEN) is looking for an Airport Field Maintenance Manager to join our Field Maintenance Team at DEN. In this role, you will oversee various maintenance and repair projects across the airport while coaching, mentoring and developing employees to support their career progression. Serving as the departments hiring manager, you will play a key role in building and guiding the team. You will also serve as the logistics chief during emergency incidents, requiring responsiveness, strong decision-making skills and the ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure, and high-stress situations.

Key responsibilities will include:

Oversee a team of about 150 employees and 50 on-call snow fighters. Manage and direct daily operations to ensure policies and procedures are being followed

Ensure goals and objectives are met, services are being provided efficiently and effectively, and takes corrective action when needed

Oversees incidents and emergencies, supports other divisions and collaborates with DEN stakeholders to ensure correct resources are safely utilized during incident

Regularly participates in the Denver PEAK LEAN initiatives and Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) with multiple stakeholders to resolve operational inefficiencies

Contributes to the development and implementation of work procedures on annual and strategic plans. Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives for division and DEN

Assists with the development and oversight of the Field Maintenance budget for operating and capital expenditures

Manage the Snow and Ice Control Plan (SICP) duties such as removal of snow off runways, taxiways, ramps apron, deice pads and cargo. Along with monitoring the application of sand and chemical. Coordinate and collaborate other divisions during all snow events from pre-planning through clean-up

Represents the Airport Infrastructure and Maintenance division in meetings with stakeholders and other city entities along with serving as a representative on committees for airport improvement

Wildlife Hazard Committee (WHC) member for Part 139.337 compliance. Collaborate with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Work collaboratively with Environmental team
on issues

Oversees staffing, disciplinary actions, and terminations as required and develops objectives and work plans and monitors performance Hires and promotes employees and staff

Manages and maintains the FAA Part 139 inspection

Builds and maintains positive relationships with the Federal Aviation

Administration, Operations, Airport Security, Airport Safety,
Maintenance Control, Environmental and other agencies

Represents DEN by doing media interviews and speaking publicly on
behalf of Field Maintenance

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:​

Experience managing crews in field operations

Strong leadership experience (preferably with large teams), with solid skills in people management, team building, and staff development; ability to mentor, coach, and train supervisors and employees for career progression

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare reports, memos, strategic plans, and correspondence for staff and diverse stakeholders

Strong background in wide variety of construction, maintenance, and repair work (pavement, asphalt, concrete, heavy equipment, roadway/taxiway operations, etc.)

Sets high standards in operational excellence and continuous improvement

Experience establishing and tracking performance metrics (KPIs), implementing key initiatives and leading process improvements

Experience in snow removal operations (leading or participating on a team) is highly beneficial

Familiarity with FAA 139 compliance helpful (but can train)

Airport experience preferred

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s).

Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of professional individual contributors.

Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application.

Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

This position will oversee Dayshift Winter Operations on the Airfield. DEN is internationally recognized as the quality standard in snow removal, the DEN Snow Team has received the nationally recognized Balchen Post Award in Excellence in Snow Removal multiple times.
